What is Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD)
Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a contagious viral infection commonly affecting young children, especially those under 5 years old. The disease causes sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. HFMD spreads through direct contact with an infected person’s bodily fluids or contaminated surfaces. It usually resolves on its own.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD) typically presents with the following common symptoms:
Painful, red blister-like spots in the mouth
Rashes on the palms and soles of feet
Fever
Sore throat
Loss of appetite, painful swallowing, drooling more than usual or only wanting to drink cold fluids
Feeling unwell
Irritability in toddlers and children
