What is Kawasaki Disease
Kawasaki disease is a rare illness that causes inflammation of blood vessels. It usually affects children below 5 years old. If left untreated, it can lead to serious complications that can affect the heart. Early treatment with medications like aspirin and IVIG is crucial to prevent long term damage.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Kawasaki disease typically presents with the following common symptoms:
Fever
Rashes on body
Red or bloodshot eyes
"Strawberry" tongue (white coating with red bumps on the tongue) and reddening lips
Swollen lymph glands in the neck
Peeling of the skin on the hands and feet
Abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea
